Maldives Association of Tourism Industry (MATI) and Maldives Association of Human Resource Professionals (MAHRP) has held a career guidance related talk targeted at A-level students.
Organised in association with Villa International High School, the talk was titled, ‘Dream, Decide, Develop – Seizing your dream career within the Hospitality Industry.’ The aim of the talk was to enhance awareness of the widespread career paths available in the hospitality industry and disseminate knowledge and insights that would assist in pursuing them.
State tourism minister Ahmed Solih, Villa College Rector Dr Ahmed Anwar, Villa International High School Principal Saeed Ahmed attended and spoke at the event.
Other attendees included executive board members of MATI and MAHRP, as well as senior management personnel of Villa International High School, teachers and A-level students.
The event included a keynote address with the theme, ‘What to consider when choosing a career?’ by MAHRP President Hussain Afeef. Case study presentations were also delivered by two guest speakers — Mohamed Adil, Jr. Sous Chef at Faarufushi Maldives resort, and Azhoora Ahmed, Surf Experience Manager at Soneva Fushi resort — detailing their journey within the hospitality industry.
The event also included a panel discussion and Q&A session with the theme, ‘How do you find your passion within the service industry?’ The panel consisted of Iyaz Waheed, Executive Board Member at MATI, Ali Adam, Executive Secretary at MAHRP, and Tharaka Appuhamy, Assistant General Manager of Talent Management and Quality Assurance at Aitken Spence Hotels.
This is the inaugural career guidance event organised by MATI and MAHRP, more of which are to be organised and executed across the country.
As a non-profit established since the introduction of tourism in Maldives, MATI has been at the forefront of almost all travel and tourism related activities and issues in the Maldives for the past three decades. The association coordinates with government and liaise with organisations locally and internationally to solidify member services and operations in the tourism sector.
MAHRP is the first professional association registered in the Maldives, dedicated to human resources and people development. The association’s mission is to serve the needs of HR professionals by providing the most current and comprehensive resources, and to advance the profession by promoting HR’s essential values, setting professional standards and providing the know-how. It is committed to linking and connecting HR professionals and practitioners locally and oversees through signature events and membership activities.
